Starlink is now an option

The new satellite based internet provider Starlink is now an option for the area. Northern Blair County was just recently approved for new users. Starlink is a low altitude satellite based internet service provider providing high speed internet to locations not served by traditional service providers. This is not your old school satellite internet. Unlike HughesNet and others, Starlink is a new type of satellite internet never before seen.

The low orbit of the satellites provides very fast, low latency internet with no data caps. The system is created to be setup and running with no technical knowledge needed. Startup cost will start at around $600 and then a monthly fee of $120 per month. Depending on network traffic you can expect download speeds between 50mbps and 250mbps.

  • Is this the right option for everyone? No, if you have an option for cable, fiber, fixed wireless or another highspeed option, Starlink would be over priced.
  • Will it work anywhere? No, if you do not have a direct line of sight to the northern sky your internet will be obstructed frequently.
  • Does Starlink provide installation services? No, Starlink currently does not have any install services available. Ricmer.com provides independent support for installations and other technical support for all types of technology.
